What CG1 Assist is

CG1 Assist is software that helps you work out Irish capital gains tax on disposals of quoted shares and spot cryptocurrency, and prepares a CG1 return for you to check and file yourself.

What it is not

  • It is not tax advice. It is software. It does not know your wider circumstances, and it is not a substitute for a qualified adviser.
  • It does not file anything for you. You file your own return with Revenue.
  • It does not pay Revenue for you, and it will never ask for your Revenue login.
  • It is not affiliated with, approved by, or endorsed by the Revenue Commissioners.

Paying and filing are two different obligations

Irish capital gains tax is generally paid before the return is filed: by 15 December for disposals from January to November, and by 31 January for December disposals, with the CG1 return for that year due by 31 October of the following year. Paying does not file. Both are your obligations, and the deadlines are set by law, not by us.

What you are responsible for

You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of what you upload and confirm. The software proposes an interpretation of your records; nothing becomes a figure until you confirm it. If the records you give us are incomplete or wrong, the result will be too. You are responsible for reviewing every figure before you rely on it, and for filing and paying on time.

What you are buying

Access is sold per disposal tax year. Buying a year gives you access to prepare that year's payments and its CG1 return, and that access runs through the return deadline and a short grace period after it โ€” because a 2026 disposal is not filed until 31 October 2027.

Your contract is with Shane O'Brien.

Refunds

If your case turns out to be outside what CG1 Assist supports, you get your money back. That is the promise on our pricing page and we stand behind it.

Beyond that, you can ask for a refund within 14 days of buying, as long as you have not yet used what you bought. In practice that means we have not generated a CG1 return pack for you, and we have not shown you a calculated figure for what you owe. Once you have seen what you owe or produced a return, the work you paid for has been done.

Acceptable use

Use the service for your own tax affairs. Do not upload anything you have no right to upload, do not attempt to break, overload or reverse-engineer the service, and do not use it to prepare returns commercially for other people without a separate agreement with us.

Availability

We aim to keep the service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Deadlines are set by Revenue and do not move because software was unavailable, so do not leave filing to the last day.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from your settings, which deletes your records. We may suspend or end an account that breaches these terms.

Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the Irish courts have jurisdiction.

Changes

If we change these terms materially we will publish a new version here and record which version you accepted. This is version 2026.2.
